DC, Detroit, and my hometown, Richmond, VA, have been battling
out for murder capital of the country since the late 80's. I
think it's been every year for the last 7 that Richmond has
placed in the top 5 in per capita murders. They've never nailed
#1, but they've made it to #2 several times. A dubious honor.
Most of the violence in Richmond is drug-related, Richmond
apparently being a convenient and favorite stop on the Interstate
95 route of the Miami-New York drug runs.
