FC's been weird on my end for awhile: lots of responses in threads
arriving hours or entire days before the posts that they're responding to.
Then, on Wednesday, the Internet broke ("routes around damage", my ass! ;)
I couldn't telnet to my email at the U of Michigan, and I couldn't telnet
anyplace else either, so I called comp. services here in Winnipeg to ask
if the nameserver was down. They laughed and said, "no, something is
broken in Toronto and the Internet isn't working; the phone is ringing
here every 10 seconds or so, but Toronto can't even give us an estimate
on how long it will take to fix the problem."
So I started poking at random web links from the U of Manitoba home
page. I couldn't get to most random American things, except GNN for some
reason. I could get to the CBC (Ottawa?), but not the BBC. I don't
think Western Canada was working either, although what that would have to
do with downed links in Toronto is beyond me.
I got Michigan back an hour later, and stopped worrying. But it looks like
things might still be messed up someplace, if FC posts are being stalled
again.
