Yup. Looked at 'em. they're okay, I guess. Although compared to the TAL
routers (http://tetherless.com) they're crap.

The ricochet systems run at less than a 28.8k modem. the TAL routers run at
110k, and they'll be running at 440k in four weeks. TAL are setting up a
network across Melbourne at the moment, and we're going to use them to
provide connectivity to our clients.

Ultimately, we'll follow their network across Australia, setting up local
ISP's as we go.

Compared to them, the ricochet modems aren't worth the bother, really. They
have a 30 kilometre range, they're spread spectrum, they're ROUTERS, not
modems, they're excellent. We'll be testing them over the course of the
next week or two. We're thinking of using them to wire up parts of Bosnia,
too. Rah rah rah.

Heh. I'd like to do something similar. We're planning on doing streamworks
or realaudio plus cu-seeme from raves soonish. Should be fun.

I've had far too much time away from the net recently. After 5 years full
time I had 4 months of no access at all. Erk. It hurt. But it is good to
have a break occasionally.

Yar. I still shudder when I remember falling in love, not logging in for 5
weeks, and returning to 27,000-odd messages. Yowch.

The net is about the only media I see. We don't have a TV (haven't had a TV
for 8 years), although living in the middle of the city means that we
probably couldn't get TV even if we wanted to, I sometimes read newspapers,
and we can't get radio either (walls are too thick). So I get the newspaper
once a week, sometimes on other days, and very very occasionally watch the
news at someone else's house.

I suspect I'm not going to miss the olympics hype.

Dwayne.
