But knowing the exact number of funny looking cherubs that can simutaneously
boogaloo on a pin head is about as meaningful to me as compiling a bunch of
statistics about the state of the world.
Number of starving people = too many
of violent deaths = too many
Amount of environmental devistation = too much
etcetera, etcetera
And is there anything on the positive side to make the negatives any better?
I mean, okay, you can say there are these many homeless people in the US.
But there are so many more people with homes! So, those numbers tell you
that things are pretty good on the whole.
And yes, to the localists on the list, a lot of problems are local, but a
lot of them are caused by remote centers of power that localities find
themselves subject to.
If everyone were just living within their own local areas and had total
jurisdiction over their own affairs maybe that would be good. I still don't
think you could bury your head there and not be aware of the rest of the
world, the think local, act local kind of thing.
