Speaking of "Amazing Canada", john-paul may hath scrawled:

Lucien Bouchard lost a leg, yes. He's not the President, though, as much as
he'd like to be. He's the Leader of the Opposition in the federal House of
Commons (or Parliament). Jacques Parizeau is the Premier Ministre du
Quebec, (trans: first minister, also called Prime Minister; not to be
confused with the Prime Minister of Canada). Other provinical leaders are
called "Premier" outside of Quebec. Parizeau is sometimes referred to as
the Premier of Quebec.

But yeah, Bouchard's got a fake leg and has become a symbol of various
strengths and whatnot; he's a tremendous speaker, brilliant, really, and
charismatic. Too bad he can be terribly double faced.

Yes, food is divine. Since I'm in Montreal, we have lots of different
ethnic foods at our disposal, too, not just great french food and great
(or, erm, "interesting" quebecois specialities (poutine is not a favorite
food of mine...)). We also have, malheureusement, McDonalds and BurgerKing
as well as other assorted fastfood and junk. But dinner parties are a
primary source of amusement here (tv's rotten, noone will buy cable in this
neighbourhood "it's a suburban thing".), whether at home with friends,
intimate dinners, or in restaurants. There are _tons_ of good restaurants
in this city... and thousands of cafes. One of the nicest things on a
beautiful afternoon? Spend lots of time food shopping, then spend an hour
in the sun at a terrace, eating a croissant and drinking an alonge...Yes,
du bon pain... baguettes, pain fromontier, bagels... whatever!

fran, who has been out for dinner 4 times this week... and not fast food.
