Kohei,
Yes, you're exactly right: the kanji is the same one.
As far as advice on schools, I don't really know anything about Physics
departments in US schools, but one of Chigusa's friends enjoyed
studying at the U. of Minnesota.I'm a US "southerner" (native of the
Southeastern US), & I would caution you not to study in the Southeastern
US. As a general rule, schools in the Southeastern US are seriously
underfunded and consequently of low quality (exceptions exist though,
including Duke, Emory, Vanderbilt, Univ. of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill). Also, communities in the Southeastern US have *comparatively*
less in the way of public services (bus systems, police protection,
libraries, etc.) because people always vote against new property taxes.
There's also *comparatively* less in the way of culture, and fun
things to do generally. Southerners *do* have a unique
and very interesting culture, however.

I attended graduate school in library & information science
at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (which, like the
University of Minnesota, is in the Midwestern US). I liked it very much
there. You may also want to investigate schools in Hawaii and on the
West Coast. Crime is much higher than in the Midwest or Southeast, but
the West Coast is a bit more exciting than the Midwest or Southeast &
on the West Coast it's much easier to get decent sashimi ;) .

Of course, these are all generalizations, & as such are subject to
many exceptions. For example, I'm sure that Chicago (in the midwest)
has plenty of exciting things to do & a decent sushi bar *somewhere.*
I'm just trying to give you a general idea of how things are here
in the US. Good luck!

Hi, Tony! Thank you for a nice surprise. I never expected to
see someone who knows quite well of Japanese. Please say hello
to Chigusa for me. As I mentioned in the first message, I'm
from Niigata prefecture and am still here doing some college
work. I'm a student, and soon getting my Bachelor's degree in
Physics. After that, I'm thinking of going to Minnesota as a
graduate student. Please give me a piece of advice if you
have one, and congratulations on your son. :)

By the way, the kanji for "Takeru" is the one used as in
"BUSHI(Japanese sword warrior)"?
