The *REAL* Future

Last night my daughter-in-law gave birth to Julie Van Chandler. Since
my son is Euro and my daughter-in-law is Chinese, she already looks
all-American. :<)
For those on this list who are going through the hassles and ecstasies
of love and trying to get into some kind of state of long-term
equilibrium with a partner, I've got some great news: holding your
grandchild in your arms is the temporal equivalent of standing on a high
mountain peak and looking over broad plains, swamps, valleys and
treacherous rapids below. For a while, at least, all the triumphs and
defeats you enjoyed or suffered on the way up are suffused with a deep
and lasting glow of satisfaction and sense of rightness.
I may be gone by the time most of the rest of you/us make it up here;
but as you're struggling on your way up, remember (when you can) that a
predecessor FCer says that the voyage and the goal are worth the effort many
times over.
