and a few other goodies:
Vurt by Jeff Noon which *just* won the Campbell Award(head to
rec.arts.sf.written for the full HUGO list, btw)
RIM by Alexander Besher which even has interactive sushi (ah!)
Trouble and Her Friends by Melissa Scott
Svaha by Charles DeLint - which remains a wonder to me
for the more physics able than moi, try Greg Egan (sigh - I get all lost
in his)
in fact, recent SF seems to me the most interesting bunch of lit around
(which may be yet another sign of my fall from academic grace into
technopeasantry) ... the above, while quite fun, are eclipsed by folks
like Vinge (with True Names being essential reading for MOOers, MUCKers,
etc) and Kim Stanley Robinson (esp his Californias) and more...I haven't
devoured books with such all out active pleasure since long past days
playing deconstruction games with Shakespeare and Melville<g>...
slainte!
...C
who is on a Iain Banks binge now ...
