I read the kroupa article and I want in. Also have you heard of John Brunner. Is he still writing? ______________________________ Subject: Re: MIndvox From: georget@mindvox.phantom.com (George Thompson) Date: Sun, 24 Jan 93 03:01:10 EST Mindvox is telnetted at phantom.com they are also 212-988-5030 but that might be changing when they move (right now) to other offices and hardware. I haven't seen anything from John Brunner in a long time even Shockwave Rider was out of print for years, still might be but I'm not sure. ______________________________ Date: Sun, 24 Jan 93 01:26:44 -0800 From: Brian Willoughby Subject: Re: MIndvox When I read Hawkeye's article about MindVox in Mondo #8, I was interested. I even tried telnet'ing to phantom.com with no luck. But the $15/mo rate stopped me from investigating any further (even though it wasn't clear from the article postscript whether this was just for modem access or for TCP/IP access as well). At least the article turned me on to FutureCulture... Now that I've compiled IRC for my NeXT, I am interested again in finding out exactly what MindVox is. Is there a commonality among #future and MindVox? Is there graphical software available from Phantom Access for my NeXT? Is there a fee for those of us who are already paying for Internet/Usenet connectivity? Thanks for any clarification (I'm in the middle of reading _Voices_In_My_Head_ - perhaps that holds the answer?), --- Brian Willoughby Software Design Engineer, BSEE NCSU BrianW@SoundS.WA.com Sound Consulting: Software Design and Development NeXTmail welcome ______________________________ Subject: Re: AUtopia FAQ Construction Date: Sat, 23 Jan 93 14:47:48 CST From: Jagwire X ______________________________ From: somewhere! -- ___________________________________________________________________________ no because later >< AUtopia List autopia-request@wixer.cactus.org jagwire@wixer.cactus.org >< CyberSpace Institute BBS +1.512.469.0447 ___________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________ Subject: Re: AUtopia FAQ Construction Date: Sat, 23 Jan 93 14:47:48 CST From: Jagwire X ______________________________ From: somewhere! -- ___________________________________________________________________________ no because later >< AUtopia List autopia-request@wixer.cactus.org jagwire@wixer.cactus.org >< CyberSpace Institute BBS +1.512.469.0447 ___________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________ Subject: Re: MIndvox From: ian@mindvox.phantom.com (Ian Bainbridge) Date: Sun, 24 Jan 93 12:38:15 EST > When I read Hawkeye's article about MindVox in Mondo #8, I was interested. > I even tried telnet'ing > to phantom.com with no luck. You telnet and you're there, then you type: mindvox and you connected to the mindvox machine. > investigating any further (even though it wasn't clear from the article > postscript whether this was just for mod em access or for TCP/IP > access as well). Its for all access. > Now that I've compiled IRC for my NeXT, I am interested again in finding out > exactly what MindVox is. Is there a commonality among #future and MindVox? in IRC? No. #future is usually empty or has one person in it sitting and waiting for someone else to show up. #mindvox has an average of 8-10 people, none of who ever show up in #future. MindVox has its own internal chat and is installing ICB, 4M and something else, giving it 4 different chat networks, IRC is one of them. The talk in the #mindvox channel has no big purpose, its usually people having fun. Sometimes it can also be hard to find it or get on it because its invisible or connected to #hack (another invisible channel). > Is there graphical softw > are available from > Phantom Access for my NeXT? Nextmail sure mangles formatting for any machine that isn't a NeXT :) Ironic as it might be from conversations I've had with the three people on Vox doing most of the work, the NeXt and Interface Builder were used to prototype the X front ends which will be the first release but they have no plan to release a Nextstep front end since there is almost no demend for it. Meaning you need to run co-xist, or white pine in a next window to get X. > Is there a fee for those of us who are already payi > ng for > Internet/Usenet connectivity? Yes. Probably 8 out of 10 people on Vox already have unix accounts somewhere else, at school, on commercial services, etc. That doesn't have anything to do with Vox. > Thanks for any clarification (I'm in the middle of reading _Voices_In_My_Head_ > perhaps that holds the answer?), To a lot of things yes :) To MindVox access, no. It was published when MindVox was still private and I dont think it even has the telnet # or data #, just the Phantom Access voice #. _________________________________________________________________________ | | | That's all for today! | | To send a message to the list: future@nyx.cs.du.edu | | To subscribe/unsubscribe/change format: future-request@nyx.cs.du.edu | | All other requests: future-request@nyx.cs.du.edu | | List Maintainer is: (andy [aka hawkeye]) ahawks@nyx.cs.du.edu | |_________________________________________________________________________| | | | The opinions expressed in FutureCulture are those of the individual | | author only. | |_________________________________________________________________________|
