My name's Kevin Wheeler and I'm the sysop of a board here in Lubbock, Texas called Demon Roach Underground. You may have read in CuD about some piracy busts here where the participants were sending their files through the university VAX, so the local Secret Service is involved and still doing an investigation. The SS agent has been contacting local sysops and having them go down to his office for questioning, and they've been asked about my board in particular. The SS is looking for pirated software, CC #s, and kiddieporn GIFs. I have none of thoes things and my board is entirely message bases and text files, but it IS private with a logon password and apparently the agent doesn't know the pwrd. Which seems odd, 'cause it's listed in the Mondo 2000 Users' Guide and Computer World and dozens of different t-files scattered all over the place. It's about the least-public "public" board imaginable. Doesn't the SS have a database of this sort of thing? Anyways, I suspect he's gonna call me next week to talk, and I'm not sure how to handle this. Do I be obstinate and refuse to answer anything at all? Do I get a lawyer (I have little money though)? Or do I just go and talk 'cause I have nothing personal to hide anyways? He's also probably going to want an account on my board. I don't particuarly care if he's on there or not, other than that I get the impression he's not too informed about computer things and might decide to do something (like pull a Steve Jackson) stupid and then I'd be in a mess of hassle. What about this "publishing status" which has been mentioned in some messages? I do a lot of original t-file work from that computer (for cDc communications). Is that an issue? So I don't know what to do, and any advice is very appreciated. Thanks for your time. K. I didn't find anything that exceptional about Gibson's Agrippa. It's a downright bad piece of poetry no matter how interesting the marketing around it. As for Agr1ppa it didn't look like it had much to do with Agrippa, whatever Kroupa's interpretation it was more disturbing and weird than anything. A step up from dull and emotionally flat, sure, but neither one made much sense to me.
